Cathy Brooks

Vice President, Business Development - Porter Novelli

Cathy has spent nearly two decades working in and around media and communications. As a Journalist, Cathy's experience encompasses reporting, writing, editing, broadcast management, and most recently media training and strategy development — with an emphasis on helping clients work with the broadcast media. Interspersed with these roles, Cathy has held a number of agency and corporate PR positions developing and leading public relations campaigns. Some of this experience includes several years at Blanc & Otus, and a three-year stint with Remedy Corporation.

In 2001 Cathy founded Other Than That Consulting to help clients better understand how media operate, and guide them in building effective long-term communications strategies. Presently Cathy has brought her skills to top-ranked PR firm, Porter Novelli, driving driving business development efforts on the West Coast.

In the three years before Other Than That Consulting, Cathy built and managed one of the largest, centralized Talent and Booking Departments in the cable industry for TechTV (now G4TechTV) — a national network dedicated to technology and the lifestyle that comes with it. On the booking front, Cathy hired and managed the 15 bookers, secured big name guests such as Craig Barrett, Jeff Bezos and Scott McNealy, and executed all planning and development for interviews from pre-interviews to developing questions and topics for the on-air Talent. Cathy also identified, trained and secured on-air Talent for the network. In most cases this required finding technology industry experts and training them to work in front of the camera. Beyond her departmental responsibilities, Cathy acted as one of the central spokespeople for TechTV, speaking on numerous panels and presenting to organizations interested in media.

A graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Cathy currently lives in San Francisco, CA.
